Ultimately orderly arrangements of matter become disordered. There is an increase in entropy. Eventually nonliving objects wear out and living things die and decompose. This process of becoming more disordered coincides with the constant flow of energy toward a dilute form of heat. This dissipated, low-quality heat has little value to us, since we are unable to use it.
